BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
Hello beauties! October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! And as Breast Cancer Awareness month, I want to share a remarkable story with you all. In 2012, I met an inspirational woman, Evelyn. She is the founder of Evelyn’s BFF, Or Evelyn’s Breast Friends Forever. This non profit organization unites women with breast cancer through events dedicated to celebrating life. Together they are committed to support and enrich the lives of those they touch. Its vision is to help raise the self confidence of women with breast cancer by providing funds to pay for breast reconstruction to uninsured women. Evelyn and I met because a mutual friend invited to volunteer at one of Evelyn’s events. I put strip eyelashes on the BFFs, and did their eyebrows twice in 2012. This year, Evelyn invited me back to a fabulous banquet at The South End Racquet & Health Club. At the event, I applied strip lashes donated by the very generous Naimes, and taught them to fill in their eyebrows.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The Breast Cancer Awareness Month event actually had two organizations: Evelyn’s BFF and South Bay Plastic Surgeons. It was called a BRA and SPA event. BRA is actually a clever acronym for Breast Reconstruction Awareness. Because as Evelyn says, even though breast reconstruction doesn’t cure the cancer, it gives the cancer patient her life back. SPA was for the fact that I along with many other volunteers pampered the BFFs.
I absolutely love the mission behind this Breast Cancer Awareness Month event and others like it, organized by Evelyn’s BFF. As I always say, makeup, and other beauty products have the power to uplift us women in such a unique way. And as my mother, who is also a survivor of breast cancer says, “even when you don’t feel your best, try to look your best. It will do wonders for your mood.” And it does. I was so elated to see the reaction of the women at the BRA and SPA event. So many told me they felt so beautiful with strip lashes, with their brows filled in, and so on.
If you’re a woman in The South Bay are who is struggling with breast cancer, or who has survived breast cancer, I highly encourage you to check out the amazing non profit that is Evelyn’s Breast Friends Forever. It is an excellent network to meet other woman who share your experience. And the organization hosts about 6 FUN events a month for the BFFs! Hope you all enjoyed this blog. How did you all celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month? 🙂 Stay Beautiful!
