Hello beauties! Today’s blog post is all about color correcting! The best products for color correcting and how to. Color correcting is all the craze this Spring. I’m so excited to share my favorite pro tips and products with you all!
Color Correcting Tips
Color Correcting is a professional makeup artist technique that follows the color wheel theory. Complimentary colors will do two things:
- They will contrast in a way that compliments each other.
- Colors that are opposite of each other on the color wheel will cancel each other out.
The following are the pairs of complimentary colors on the color wheel:
Red and Green
Purple and Yellow
Blue and Orange
It makes sense if you think about it. That is why a green Christmas Tree with red ornaments looks so nice. That is why an orange sunset on a blue ocean looks beautiful.
Now that you know the the theory of color correcting and how it works, let’s get into products.
The Best Products for Color Correcting
Dermalogica Redness Relief Primer
Remember, green neutralizes red. This product is the real MVP. It goes above and beyond. It’s green tint comes naturally from botanical extracts. It also has soothing ingredients like oatmeal, chamomile and ginger to repair redness. So, you are faking it and fixing it at the same time! You can conceal the redness and heal it all in one step. I have mild Rosacea on my Chin, so I love this to treat and hide my redness every day! If you’d like to try it, you can buy it here.
Benefit Cosmetic’s Erase Paste
Orange neutralizes blue, which works great for dark circles under your eyes. My first job out of beauty school was at a Benefit Brow Bar. I played with all of the cosmetics. One of my favorite was the Erase Paste. This was years ago before color correcting was a trend. I have genetic dark circles. No eye cream or concealer will ever get rid of them. It’s hard to conceal them completely, to be honest. However, the Erase Paste was amazing to brighten my under eye area. Orange can be considered neutral because it has cool undertones from red and warm undertones from yellow. So anyone with dark, blueish, under eye circles can wear it– and it will blend out with your foundation, regardless of your undertone. Erase Paste comes in 3 shades and you can buy it here.
Cove FX Color Correcting Sticks
Cover FX is a very special brand to me. They have invited me to blogger events and have given me free products to try in the past. They told me on IG that color correcting is a huge spring trend. The suggested I try their Correct Clicks to color correct. They are great for full coverage and of course concealing. They come in yellow, peach, orange, purple, green, and brick red. In essence, you can cover anything with this. Brick red will work great to cover up green veins. Yellow will cover up capillaries and works as a great eye shadow based. If you’d like to try Cover FX Cover Clicks, you can find them here.
